Well today was a pretty good day for me.... After digging well over a dozen old shot gun shells :rage:,, I finally dug my first Shield Nickel  Nothing to great,,, And they are common item for some people... But I'm still stoked about it!!!!!
I just got permission to hunt this old corn field with a old school still standing in the edge of it.... As soon as i got in the field i pick up a 1910 Wheat just under the ground.. I kept searching and was finding shotgun shell after shotgun shell... I dig about every conductive signal that i come across in a field... I started making my way, away from the old school house kinda following the tree line when i got another low hit... Hitting just like one of those shot gun shells... I dug down and only about 3 inches angling a little on edge i spotted a round disc.. Then i noticed a shield with lines through it... I grabbed it out of the dirt knowing i had my first crusty old Shield Nickel.. Pretty excited about this one guys.... I have dug plenty of V's and Buffalo's... But never a Shield......

Thanks for looking at my find for the day.... And good luck everyone!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice going Derrell.:clapping: I have yet to find a shield nickel. Maybe someday..........:wiggle: I'm still waiting to find my first seated coin and I have a old farm house that I got permission to hunt that goes back to the late 1800's and maybe that seated is waiting there for me. I'm still trying to get my strength back from all the chemotherapy that I went through and then I will hit that place. Good luck on your next outing. HH.

Sure beats another wheatie Derrell! Any coin from that vintage is fun to find. The PLUS is that you can see all the features - especially the date!
My goal this year is capped silver. I only get out once or twice a week so I need luck with me.

Thanks a million Bob!!!!!!!! I hope to see some finds from yourself soon man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't find many of those either...maybe 1 a year if I am lucky. I would be stoked too if I landed that Coin since they just don't surface often enough. Congrats on another first and hope your luck continues in that field. Remember, where there is a Sheild Nickel, Seated could be soon to follow. Good Luck and HH to you.:detecting:

it really doesn't look bad for coming out of a field. I've dug a lot worse looking nickels than that. Better hunt those fields while you can. Before long the farmers will start putting in crops.

Thanks Mattockman!! Im sure you get one soon as well!! Keep diggin man!!
