Only one silver tonight.. A 1950 D rosy.....

But ill tell you what... After the day I just had, finding this one little old worthless Rosy is worth as much to me as a Seated Half.... The one things about Metal Detecting is is doesn't madder how bad things are, or how jacked up the world may be... It can totally relax you, heck throw in a 1950's silver dime that you could probably find in pocket change, can still get your heart pumping and add a little smile to your face!

And the one thing I love about this SE it the ability to pull that little old dime while the machine is in a null

I recently obtained permission to hunt this little old church yard.. I hit it about 4 times with the E-trac.. Only found good coins on the first trip with the E.. Pulled two merc's and a war nickel and a few wheats... The next two time with the E-trac I didn't find squat.. The last time with the E-trac I set it up in two tone ferrous and pulled another wheat..

I hadn't been back since I picked up another SE.. The ground has been two dry and I didn't want to leave a bunch of dead plugs laying around.. So tonight to take some things off my mind I decided to go give it a try. I put on the trusty 10x12 SEF, set the SE on Semi auto sensitivity and started moving at a snails pace.. The first signal I received was the Buffalo nickel.. It came through loud and clear.. I just didn't dig it the last few times not wanting to fool around with the beaver tails and pull tabs.. In the middle of the yard where I found one merc with the E-trac. You can see a low spot where a medium sized tree probably sat.. as soon as you start getting within a foot of the spot the machine starts to null out on the iron.. I work around that spot nice and slow with the null not breaking at all.. It wasn't long till I got a high pitch break.. I turned and and all I got was null.. signal.. null.. from every direction.. I switched over to manual sensitivity and the signal was horrible!!!! Just sounded like iron falsing. Put it back in auto and got a nice little warble when you went over the coin. I opened up the plug, dug down and at about 8 inches was this pretty little silver rim peaking through the dirt :bouncy: Sure makes a guy feel good to see that! The other 4 coins I picked up hit the exact same way.. They were all hidden well in the iron patch..
Well guys and gals.. Thank you all so much for looking and good luck!

Here's to that "high pitched break" you got from the nulling...:beers:

Here's to that bad signal in iron while running manual sensitivity... but GOOD one while in semi auto...:beers:

Here's to what seeing the glimmer of silver meant to you after a having a crappy day...:beers:

Nice post brother. You put a smile on my face...and it's been a long crappy day here too.

Now it's off to bed for me:)

Derrell,

I could have sworn that after reading your first two paragraphs, I thought I was reading one of Bryce's posts.

Yep, just one shiny, old coin would make my day too.....and that one coin keeps me yearning for more and more!

Congrats on the dated buffalo too.

Thanks for the comment Bryce :buds:

Ha thanks Captn
I remember about two years ago when I first purchased an SE. I looked like I was swatting flies out their.. I was going so fast I could hunt a foot ball field in about 30 minutes AND COVER THE WHOLE THING HAHA A met a guy at a park and he told me about this forum.. I remember read a post Bryce made where he promised if you slowed way down you would find deep coins hiding in a bed of nails.. I gave it a try and the proof is there! It works for me. I have to admit, I have only recently been playing around with Semi Auto sensitivity.. I had been a strong believer in manual for the last two years.. Usually kept it around 22. After my little test tonight I have myself worried that I might have passed up on a few questionable hits.. Guess I will just have to keep pounding the old spots!

Looking forward to your next post Captn!

Thanks, Derrell.

Slowing way down is the key to hearing all the signals in the ground!! You've got it!!

As for auto sens., I feel I'm in my "zone" with manual in the low 20's at my local parks. I've got so much confidence in manual. I tried auto a few times, but when I could barely hear a 6" target in highly mineralized ground while I was in auto (I assumed that auto was placing my machine at a very, very low sens to counter the bad ground), I switched back to manual, and the signal got much stronger, but also a little more noisier. That's okay for me.....I can handle a much higher amount of chatter now than when I first used my SE.

Man ... you suck haha. Great finds. I watched you hunt the other day. You do a great job of moving slow, even tho we covered a lot of real estate. But there were a couple of things i really thought you were doing well. Moving slow, eyeballing spots where trees used to be or low areas, and keeping your coil on the soil. A lot of good finds come from just being able to read the area. Been cooped up too long this week im diggen some where tomorrow.

Thanks Dew... The one thing I know I need to work on is staying in one place.. I can swing low and slow I just want to hunt the whole dang park! :detecting: One of the things I liked about your style
