The wife and I decided to make one last camping trip in out 5th wheel so we headed east about 200 miles. It was in the low 90's and high 80's most of the time and I decided that if I wanted to go detecting I would get up bright and early before it got too hot. Wed morning I was up at five and headed to this old town park and I'm thinking I'm probably about 40 years too late at being able to find much as this place has been pounded to death like most other parks. I started out finding all this clad right on top of the ground and figured they must have had something going on there. I got about $3 in clad and then it was time to get down to business. I got a little more clad and then I got a good signal and it turned out to be a 1944 wheatie. No big deal I know, but it was a start. A little while later I got another signal not in the silver range, but dug a plug and out pops the ugliest Indian head that I have ever dug. After who knows how long this thing has been in the ground old mother earth wasn't too kind to it. It was dated 1903 so now I'm thinking just maybe there might be a Barber here someplace. After about four hours and it's starting to get warm I was about to call it a morning and started working my way back to my truck and I get this sweet signal. I dug a six inch deep plug and turned it over and here was the silver edge of a dime staring at me. I ran to my truck and grabbed my camera and took a picture of it still in the dirt and then I took it out of the dirt only to find a 1943 merc. I was really hoping for a Barber, but I'll take a merc any day and at least I didn't get skunked and I got my detecting fix. Wish I had more to show you fellows, but some days are like that. Thanks for looking and GL & HH to everyone.
