Well it finally stopped raining so got a few hours in and with 20 years in the hobby and armed with a lot of tips here you go:
We must remember the big brother of the Ace 250 with the larger DD coil is more geared for relic hunting with new meter block setup and has surprisingly good depth for silver coin hunting as well as it covers a lot of ground and handles the ground well.
In a two hour hunt uncovered some clad gas money and a 7-8 inch 54 rosie silver dime along with a gold filled faker gold ring in my local park.
As far as the DD coil and bottlecaps here is a simple solution that works everytime.....accept the bottom two iron meter facets or switch to zero when you get a belltone coin signal and center the coil on the target and move it towards you and just as you lose the belltone you will get a low tone iron signal....actually to me coins sounded a tad better belltone wise but comes from years of interpeting audio variances on various units and may not be as apparent to perhaps a newbie or inexperienced operator but the low iron signal is quite apparent.
If bottlecaps are a bother to you get an Ace concentric coil for local parks and you will have a two coil inexpensive unit to handle various facets of the hobby.
I understand some specials are being offered that have both a DD and Concentric coil combo so you might look into some of the offers.
