It is a handwritten journal of her trials and tribulations...... And believe me, she had many. It makes for a fascinating story. I have edited out a few items [the dates of birthdays, weights, etc] and the writing is somewhat difficult to read at times [dial up has forced me to reduce the quality of the pages].. However, it really does give a hint of just what that generation went through..

If you want more let me know... I will then post the other pages. If not.. that is okay too. I know just how hard it is to read.

It is worth struggling through to just see how difficult life was back in those days.

Good story Mikie!!

She writes it so there is no doubt about her having lived it.

Funny about the dog digging up the gold thieves stash!

Thanks for the post and I am looking forward to the rest!

Regards,

CJ

PS I had no problem reading the pages with these old eyes so anyone should be able to do the same.

I started to read it and it is somewhat difficult for me, but I read just enough to realize that this is one story that I need to set aside some time this afternoon to read to completion...this should prove most interesting and is going to be enjoyable. I love reading old first hand stories like this one. Kelley (Texas) :)

and classic story...once I started reading it, I could not stop. Yes, please post some more, this is great reading! Folks back in those days lived a rough life, no frills to speak about, just hard work to survive. I could not believe it got so cold, 30 degrees below freezing and etc. Also, folks back in those days were more honest than they are now...he returned the gold because it was not rightfully theirs to keep...very honest. I remember my folks getting an ice box on the installment payment plan...they bought it from Sears & Roebucks. It was wood and had metal lining the inside, and once a week a large block of ice was put inside of it. I did not understand why we had it when my grandmother had one that used gas and the flame would somehow cool it, don't ask me how it worked, but it did. Later we got the electric plug in type ice box. It seemed that we were always the last folks in the area to get the new modern things. This story that you posted brought back lots of memories. Yes, please post some more of this story! Mike, thank you for posting this story, I am going to read it again! Kelley (Texas)

that if you click on it and get the bigger view, right click on the bigger view and click on "Save image as" and save it to you computer, I saved it to my desk top. Then you can open it in Photoshop, choose Levels and use auto levels and it makes the paper whiter and makes it much easier to read. You also have it on your computer to read at your leasure.

I have not read it all yet, just trying it out as I am in the middle of some yard work but will read it tonight. This makes if much easier to read and you can make it any size you want to.

Here is a sample. I don't know about you youngsters but it makes it easier to me :D You can mess with the controls to make it the way you want. I just did this in a hurry.

as they were they still did the honest thing. I'm sure they could of used the money/gold as much as anyone. I wish more
were like that today. Rain finally started here so I can at last read all of them.....
