One room school house

Went out of town to the next county to poke around a old school house. Found the usual trash, a weird looking old Master Lock, some kind of ribbon or bow looking thing. Some clad and a 1906 IHP. Pretty sure it has been hammered before. The school still has the old two hole Pooper. Lol. The Town Hall next door is next week. From the looks of the bricks I would say it was built in the 30's or 40's.

We have some 40+ old one room schools in just my county. Only a couple are still standing and the rest are hard to locate as either now private property or in the middle of some farm field etc. I’ve been trying to research but old maps not super accurate and old pics usually not enough background to further identify. But I’m on it…… Good hunt for you!!!!

Did you research to see if that school was moved there from another location? It does looked like the historical society helped to preserve it

It is in the original spot. What I thought was just a steel ring turned out to be a silver bracelet.

The old ribbon looking thing kind of looks like the top of a corkscrew

It turns out that is made out of brass. And I was told a corkscrew, the decorative top piece of an old mantle clock. Or possibly a wind-up key to an old music box

Looking in some older topographic maps & you might see some old school's on them.

Also, my GPS is a Garmin Drive 50LM & you can tell it to find hospitals, Gasoline, etc and "school" >> & mine shows where new & old schools. The list it gives of schools show near from your standing & up several miles. If mine shows that, other Garmin's might do it too

With historic Map works, it will sometimes allow you to Overlay the old maps that you bring up onto Google Maps which is really nice because then you can judge wear on Google Maps it's at because a lot of places from the 1800 obviously are no longer around but it will show you where the old houses were the school's the church everything else pretty cool thing to use

Now that you know it was in the original spot - try to visualize the paths that folks took to get into the school. Then detect those hopefully you get a few more keepers.

Ohhh... I like idea big Tony... Good thinking...! Then visualize where the delinquent school boy would go out and smoke corn-silk, or Daddy's stolen tobacco, or shoot marbles and chew tobacco..! That spot is just out of sight of the teacher. Maybe behind the out house.?
