One ounce of Gold and Silver

Treasure Mike

New member
Found the gold chain in the middle of a football field last week. It registered at 17 on the VDI meter of my MXT with the Bigfoot coil. I was shocked when I dug this one up. I could not believe how heavy it was for its size. It is 20 inches long and it weighs in at one ounce. I tested it on my Mizar electronic gold tester and it immediately shot up to 18 K. That's as high as this model will test. I think that it is actually a higher karat than that. The color is a very deep yellow. The quarter is my first silver 25 cent piece. Found it at a soccer field this morning at two inches deep and it registered at 89.
The 14 K earing was eyeballed at a school wood chip play area in plain view. It weighs 2.2 grams. Also, the clasp on the chain was bent open when I found it. This type of chain is secured by bending the clasp to connect the end to it. The clasp bent fairly easily when I reattached it. Thanks for looking! Mike

Congratulations Mike!

Great finds and outstanding pictures. Thanks for the post.

Fantastic finds Mike. The chain alone would pay for your MXT and it does sound like it is better than 18Kt if the clasp bends that easy. Congratulations.

Way to go Mike! So, what did the chain sound like? Were you using coin mode? What was the meter indicating? Was it a solid hit or a chattery sound? What part of the soccer field was it?
Thanks-

Tom

The sound from the chain was very clear and registered on the VDI meter between 17 and about 20, so there was not too much variation between sweeps. I imagine I was picking up the clasp more so than the chain itself. I always use the relic mode with the Bigfoot DD coil. Discrimination set so that I pick up all signals above about 5 or 10 on the meter. Most goodies I have found at sports fields have been along the sidelines or around the goals. This chain I located about mid-field as I was crossing to the other side. Goes to show that good finds can be just about anywhere. It still surprises me every time I locate a good find. You dig so much trash trying to find gold that when a good one pops up it is really unexpected. I don't know how many times I have said to myself, it's probably another aluminum pop top and then bang! out comes a gold ring. It's the anticipation that maybe this time it will be gold. This hobby is Great! I wish sometimes I would have started this hobby 20 years sooner. Mike
