I will Listen to what the E-trac is telling me and quit digging that "Deep Iron" !!
but I guess I just don't want to miss a good find close to it...I will eventually Hone
my skill's down to the Audio Only! and use the Visual Fe-Co and Depth Meter as
a confirmation of what might be below the pro coil...Most of the time I already
know it's iron before I dig....But old habits are hard to break....:minelab:

I also try and "force" nothing into something usually several times during a hunt.

Biggest problem I still face coming from my old Tesoro that I used for 22yrs is the hunting style of "the more you dig...the more you find". It's hard for me to pass up a coin even though I pretty much quit digging zincs. I'm doing better on trying to only chase the deeper stuff but still waste some precious time digging some shallow stuff.

I hear what your saying! I have precious little time to hunt and when I'm in an "Old" Public park I try to ignore
the shallow zinc readings, although I still pick up the surface dime and quarter readings.....I don't even waste my time picking
change up off the asphalt unless it is a nickel or higher...LOL

I do the same thing with pull tabs, hoping they are nickels, even though I'm pretty sure it's a dang pull tab. I have been surprised a few times though.

Ahh yes, the deep corroded nail syndrome!
Early on i got frustrated digging up deep nails. Now i kinda like digging them things up, the more corroded the better. :spin:
Besides, on a slow day with scarce good targets, digging up a whopper nail signal breaks up the monotony.

How far to the side of the hole will it be? How deep? How corroded? How big? Square? Bent? Masking a coin?
Where there's old deep corroded nails, there's bound to be deep old coins there especially in old parks. Sometimes, maybe not!

Since nails are categorized by penny weight, i've dug up enough 4d to 60d corroded and square nails over the years to amass a large amount of pennies. LOL
All those dug up nails could of built a mansion.

Believe it or not corroded nails are prize finds by some people too.
I remember watching a video a while back where these detectorists were searching a historic home site dig under the direct supervision of archaeologists. One of those detectorists marked an iron target but of course the archy wouldn't allow him to dig it.
The archy with small trowel and brush in hand carefully dug up that target to find, you guessed it, a corroded nail.
He called over his fellow archy's to view this amazing find. They were all ecstatic viewing that nail, passing that nail along from one to another. You woulda thought they dug up a one pound gold nugget!
The camera caught a glimpse of that 'lucky' nail finding detectorist who had that look, the look of laughing inside.

If you quit digging zincs, you'll not dig I.H. pennies.....nge

If the zinc signal has any depth over maybe 5" I'll usually take a shot at it depending on where I'm hunting...???? I've only recently turned up a few IH's and sure I've passed over many cherry picking while trying to learn the etrac (another yr with the etrac and I should hopefully get the hang of it). Pretty amazing machine so far.........
