One of the oddest things I have ever found

Found it years back. It is a 8 sided small bottle that was inside what looks to be a large bullet case. You can see the size of it next to the battery.Any clues ?

Jim West Pa, I think you might have it right. Some of the nitroglycerin pills are eight sided like the bottle. Also the metal casing looks like it might have had an outside sleeve that fit over the one in the picture.
