Last weekend we got up a bit too early for the younger son (6:00am) and he looked tired at the beach, so I thought we'd leave it a bit later today and let him sleep. Not much change though, still not really focused on the detecting side and at 8 years old I guess he doesn't need to be either. For the minimal holes he did dig he managed to get a 100 yen coin and a silver ring (which was one more than I got i.e. zero) so he was happy. The jellyfish seemed more interesting today.
Me: 1,461 yen in coins, two game tokens, sinkers, lighters.......a bucket of trash.
Met the bulldozer man again and had a talk with him and two other drivers. They have been levelling the beach and are finishing up today. Was very surprised to hear they have ordered two detectors from the USA - not sure what make/model. Suspect we'll meet again next year if not before. As we were leaving I noticed they had removed a lot of the sand from a small river at one end of the beach and were spreading that around up at beach level - pic below. So, you can guess where I'll be heading next time.
Had a lot of fun talking with various people today e.g. A young Japanese guy runs up to me and asks what I'm doing. My reply was "Hey, I like your pendant and chain!" he laughed :rofl .......I showed him the detector.
A couple of mothers with kids came up and I gave one of the kids a try with the Ace.
Talked with an older man who was fishing and he was into oil exploration at one time. Interesting.
Great way to meet new people. Detecting at the beach has to be one of the best ways to meet Japanese without an introduction. The barriers seem to drop away and they'll easily make the first contact.
Two jet skis came by the beach and some girls shouted out that they wanted a ride and were given it too. Thought to myself that guys don't need a car anymore?!
Oh, Bill, if you read this one, thought you might like the pic of my son looking like your recent pendant.
