I went back to the fairgrounds that gave me the two v nickles and Barber dime last Sunday. I stayed for 2 and a half hours and managed a couple keepers. the first wasn't too impressive only a 1940 wheat but I like wheats,it gives you a good indication of what could be in the area. And they are fun to collect seeing there are so many years. I kept at it for awhile when I got this short choppy hit with a much higher tone to it. I circled it and wiggled the coil over it and I did manage to get the number to reach 180 but only for split second. The rest of the time it was around 177-178 and the tone just wasn't singing silver. I thought it would be an older wheat or Indian and the signal stayed short and cutoff. for the fun of it I passed the full width of the coil over it and then moved the coil about half off of the target and it wouldn't give a response. Verifing you need to overlap your swings, if I had not been overlapping I probably would have missed this target. I took a big plug out seeing that it wasn't pinpointing very well and checked with the pinpointer, nothing ,I took a handfull of dirt out and checked again and right on the bottom and on the side of the hole I get a response. This time I'm being a little more careful, I want to see how it is positioned in the hole. I scraped away some dirt with my finger and a tiny silver rim appeared on the side tilted at about 45 deg. Probably the reason for the short choppy signal. If I had been a little more careful last Sunday I probably would of seen that the one barber I had trouble pinpointing was on edge also. The hole is about 7 inches deep. I pulled it out and there is a 1899 Barber dime in pretty nice shape. This is 4 barber dimes from here and only 1 Merc and no Roosies. I'll try to get pictures posted this week. my honey does that for me
