One last carnival ride

JimmyCT

Well-known member
So this past weekend after being booted from the campground, I took a ride over to carnival land. I should of never of listened to my brother when he said it was all closed off. I should of went right down there myself. ( take a lesson from this ) He didn't even bother to pull into the parking lot and drive down to the end....if he had, he would of noticed the gaping hole that the nice foreman left for me :) He wasn't kidding when he said to me, " I am sure you will find a way OVER the fence" Yes, I did right over the wooden fence lol

A lot of dirt has been moved into the center to form the great pyramid of Egypt. Trenches were dug for pipe lines and I hit the dirt piles and trenches liike a vicious dog on a three legged cat. The last three days I managed to pull four crusty wheat cents (1938, 1930, 1934 & 1927) and a cross. A total of about 12 hours search time. The ground is extremely quiet and I have a feeling with all those massive diggings, the goodies are down deep and in the mountain of dirt. I noticed the more they moved the dirt around the less signals. When they orginally scraped the top 6 inches off, that is when I found the most of the goodies. Now, I just have to hope they spread out that mountain of dirt soon so I can greet the carnival for one last ride.

Thanks for looking - Jim aka dimeman

probly the pile of dirt is the top soil , and will be spread back out , could be most of the stuff never got that deep , and like you say when its spread out again that will be your finest hour, i am really suprized a silver quarter has not graced your coil , JIM DID YOU FEEL THAT QUAKE??

Gunnar I didn't feel a thing from the earthquake. You? I am really surprised that I didn't get a silver quarter out of this carnival area. hmmm I guess this is not the spot. :(

Jim the big boys did not leav you much , but one of thies days you are going to find the spot they missed and you will have silver and big silver , CAN SOMBODY SAY AMEN

I hate you got booted off the campground. There's a lot of places you really have to choose your times carefully. If your going to dig and you think someone might give you grief, go in the off season. If it's a school then daybreak on Saturday, is a good time, and leave no trace you've been there. If someone has a problem with it don't debate with them just leave. Then come back at a time when they aren't there. Many times people just want to show their authority and let you know they're in control. Let them have their authority then go back later and hunt all you want. I rarely ask permission at a public place and seldom have issues. There's a school here that I do have permission and is officially posted. When approached by the principal one Saturday morning, my first words were " I guess I need to leave, I would have asked permission but didn't know who to ask." Right from the start he knew I wasn't going to cause trouble. He said go ahead just don't leave any holes, pickup the trash you dig, and don't do it while school activities are going on. He has checked on me from time to time to see if I play by the rules and I always do. I feel that no confrontation is best and if you ask permission and get turned down then it is definitely off limits. Which is usually 75% of the time.

Yes, it will be me when I find the missed spot :)

Hi JHM,

I'll agree with the 75% denial rate. I am like you: I figure out the best times to hit the public areas as I know there is one in the crowd that has the " he is digging a hole" syndrome. I agree with the no confrontation being best and I always respect the landowners decision. HH - Jim

Some of my best finds have come from old house places. Do your research and you can sometimes find them off out in the woods. Watch out for the well and the hole for the out house. Be prepared for lots of junk. With your determination I have no doubt there's some really good finds ahead for you

Jim

Sometimes recently moved ground if not compacted can limit depth - lots of little air pockets that all detectors don't really like.... A bit of heavy rain might help compact everything and I think you may well get some rain soon!!

Damn shame that nobody told you about this opening sooner....... well done for having another look around though - there might yet be a chance of more goodies....

Good luck

Hi beachbat,

I also heard the same thing about depth being limited with freshly moved ground. Although, I dug some nice shiny pulltabs around 5 inches. Anyone interested? I will mail them priority mail lol. Come on Gunnar I know you want a few...lol. Yes, they are talking about LOTS of rain of 6-12 inches. I am kind of stuck in today as the refrigerator repair man needs to fix my... refrigerator. I love the 4 hour time frame they give. Any possibility of them narrowing it down just a tad? lol. Hopefully, I can get down to the lot this evening and poke around a bit. Thanks Beachbat, I need some luck as time is ticking in this place. All the drainage in the lot has been installed so hopefully they will start spreading out the large mounds of dirt. - Jim
