one item test garden ...

Years ago I buried a pull tab (square type) 9" deep in my back yard.

Ever since I have been looking for a detector that can solidly hit that thing.
I dont know if it is the soil here (clay mud) or what but most detectors wont report it.
My Tesoro Golden u-max, the Sovereign, my BeachHunter ID, and the Excalibur can hit it but not solid and repeatably.
Quattro ... forget it ... not even a peep!
Garrett GTI-500 ... nothing!
Fisher Coin$trike ... Nope!
Even the new White's v3 has problems with it but that might be due to my lack of understanding of that machine and how to set it up.

Anyhow ... the detector that can solidly hit that pull tab is going to get my vote as BEST MACHINE!

What is it going to take ... a PI?

Would love to try a new fisher F-75 or an Omega 8000 ... anyone want to loan me their detector for a day ... :lmfao:

I think thats going to be a toughie. But glad to see the Tesoro's get the closest as thats what I'm using.

I have a garden that is a challenge IMHO. I have a layer of hot rock gravel under my lawn-So if it gets past that to the origional soil-6"-to where I buried the test coins I'm happy.

But a single tab at 9" is asking a great deal from a detector.Let us know when you have one that will nail it.

Willee......I don't know for sure but the F75LTD is deep someone dug a pulltab at 8 inches I remember reading that a while back......I know it will go deep in BP and deeper in CL.....HH.........Dan

Hi Willie; Couple of questions here. Is that tab buried face up or on edge.?? Second: Are you using Discrimination??? I know that many of the detectors you lited automatically start at a preset level of discrimination especially the Whites V3. Don't know but you may want to check this first. also almost any detector will read the tab as iron or foil at that depth. Also asking any detector to find a pulltab at 9" is pretty harsh.I bet that if you buried a dime at that depth face up almost all of them would NAIL it.ok. I hope this helps.Keep us Posted ok. PEACE:RONB

Without a doubt the PI's should hit it. I would also think the v3i will do it if adjusted correctly - probably would have to do some experimenting for your ground/area. All Metal - Mixed Mode - lowest filter setting practicable - extend delay and sat and maximize gain and sensitivity - different sweep speeds, etc... that's the beauty of the machine - infinite options/adjustments to maximize performance regardless - whether for depth - separation - recovery speed - trash - minerals or whatever else the challenge. Don't know about Tesoro - Minelab - Fisher or any other. Definately a good way to experiment and compare machines and features. I am interested in how this experiment turns out. Keep us posted. Thanks and HH.
