One COLD hunt yields silver and a bunch of coins

Three of us went out to brave the cold today, we lasted 4 hours. Had it not been for chemical hand warmers in our gloves we would have given up. The Garrett pro pointers struggled with the cold, mine worked but it had a huge chunk of ice on the end that definately affected its operation. I had to knock it off with my shovel a few times.

I hit this site a year ago and it yielded 2 silver rings, I only spent a little time there and I knew that I wanted to return. I got a nice silver ring, a sterling St. Christophers medal, and an Our Lady Loretto, patron saint of Aviation medal. Still lots more ground to cover, we left a lot of pennies behind too. The odd part about this site is in two trips I found 3 rings, all within a 10 foot area along the volleyball court.

Below is a picture of our bounty, the tailgate picture is all finds for the three of us

Way to go! You guys had a great day!
Just think of what it will be like there when it''s pleasant out. :detecting:

I admire your perseverance...."Ice on the pin-pointer"...I could not even imagine MDing in that cold.Still waiting for winter to start here in Fla...this week,so they say!! ..Congrats on your ring, medal and coins..GL

bob oz, I have even detected in the snow and rain. It's actually nice detecting in the snow if the ground isn't frozen, you can monitor your swing pattern, frozen toes is the down side. I have also made finds that were frozen in the ground that I had to go back for after a thaw. Unfortunately every time that happened it was junk .. LOL.

A 56 year native of this Florida sun,my blood has thinned to water...I would not tolerate cold weather, below 70 is cold, never been in snow, wear shorts/no shoes 99% of the year.In the late 60's my parents wanted to sell the house and move back to NY,not me,I couldn't tell you how many "For Sale" signs I pulled from the front yard and threw off the dock!!!..Stay warm friends, get out if you can...GL

I think my hands and feet are finally back to normal after our hunt on Sunday!

I found my first Indian on a 30 degree day when Hotrod53 and I scaled the side of a mountain down to an old community that is no longer accessible by vehicle. I had hand warmers in my boots and gloves that day. It seems like you kind of need to do a trip or two like that every winter to remind you of just how good you have it the rest of the year.

This time of year is scouting time in PA, the woods and weeds are down and a keen eye can recognize patterns in the woods. Summertime is usually park hunting only for us which I really don't care for, I'm a homesite hunter primarily. We get out when we can, no matter the weather, with our old machines we used to put breadbags over the control box to keep it dry..... I'll take it when I can get it..... LOL.

I heat with wood. And we frequently have a month or so when high temps don't get above freezing.
So I get to spend all the time I want to out in it cutting wood.
