One coil which one?

For the last couple years all I used was a cheaper detector with the stock 8" coil and have done fairly well with it so I never bought anything else.
I recently upgraded to an mxt and have been out a few times and the parks and yards I have been to seems like there's a landfill underneath it's really hard to find anything or for me anyways with it hitting seems like every inch there's foil, pull tabs and what have you.
Recently I got permission to hunt an old school yard that shows to have about 8 acres so this should be fun because not only is old coins possible but also a lot of civil war movement in that area as well.
I know I need a smaller coil for the parks and most of the places I have been hunting but I'm also going to break away from them some and look for relics now that I know I have a detector to do the job so here's my question.
My funds are limited right now so all I will be able to afford at this time is one coil so what would you use if you could only use one?
Would you get a smaller coil and use the stock coil in open areas or get one that would do well in the field and the parks or trashy areas and if so which one?
I've seen a lot talking about the DD coils and to use them in high mineral grounds so if you suggest one of those what about if the ground is not so bad do they still work good because I know nothing at all about them nor have I ever even used one.
Thanks I appreciate any help on this.

IMHO 6X10DD I find it to be considerably better in moderately trashy areas than the stock coil, yet still has good coverage and decent depth. In really heavy trash the 4X6 or 5.3.

Thanks Bill, I don't know yet about the school I'm gonna try and go there awhile tomorrow and see if it's gonna have a lot of trash right now all I got is the stock 950.

Im on the same situation with only the stock coil, waiting for the 6x10DD to arrive this week, hope it helps me to find those masked targets

Well sounds like you have a problem I have the 950, 6x10 DD and the 4x6 DD . They all work good in the right area's there designed for . But if I was in your shoe's I would get the 4x6DD or the 5.3 coil first since you say you only have limited money for one coil at this time . Then you would have a small coil for trashy area's and could still use your 950 for the more open less trashy area's until you can afford the 6x10 coil at a later date when you can afford it . I use a detech 8 inch DD coil for my general use coil as I think it gets a little better depth for me than the 6x10 . Everyone has there own choice of coils to use so its very hard to tell someone else what they will like . But bigger coil for open less trashy area's and small coils for real trashy area's is the rule and its up to you to decide what you need the worse .
I will say that the DD type of Coils seem to make the MXT run a lot smother than the 950 regular coils do which in turns makes it run a lot quieter and smoother .

I've got the stock 950, 4x6, 6x10 and 8x14. The 6x10 is on my MXT 90% of the time.
