Once again I have a Compadre ;-)

I honestly believe it's the best bang for buck detector made. Second hand they can be found very cheap.... Too cheap I say. They're Super light, decent discrimination, and an absolute killer in all metal mode. Makes for fast detecting when the digging is easy.

Luckily the wife isn't going to kill me... ;-).

From one hunter to another, "do yourself a favor and try one."

One negative I've heard:
I chatted with skywhiz ( please forgive spelling if incorrect) last week and his compadre didn't fair well in his NY soil. Very chatty... The first I've heard of a compadre, but obviously possible.

HH

Ski shoulda sent his Compadre back to Tesoro and had them tune it to his general soil...

It's hard to imagine a detector so inexpensive working as well as the Compadre does. Of all the test reports I have read about the Compadre, I have never read any negative comments about it. I wish it was still available new with the 7' coil instead of the 5.75 coil, since i have a 5.75 coil for my Silver

The 5.75" is much of the reason why I like it so much. I've read it gets thecsame depth... Not sure how that is possible.

It's too bad they can't offer both or bigger for covering large areas ;-)

did you see my response to the cibola vaq silver umax ? below?

Side by side with the silver the compadre does a little better with iron. I think the silver is a better all around detector.... I sold my 1st compadre to buy a new silver umax ( having had a used one and wanting the honest lifetime warranty). ... Then I sold my 2nd new compadre to fund my new vaq... I know with the 5.65 on the vaq I'm getting basically the same as the compadre... I'd even venture to guess the vaq 5" combo is wAyyyyy more powerful, but I still love the compadre. For it's used price I can leave in the car ( ivakways park in garages) and really not worry about losing it.... It's a go anywhere detector.

I take the vaq out on my more serious hunts... And the silver umax is mostly a backup or for friends

He sent it in, there was nothing wrong with it. You're right though, he couldve sent soil in too...I shouldn't remembered that

So, I was wondering. I shouldn't get too upset about rushing out and getting one if I have the Silver?

That little coil is the schizznitts and I am probably going to leave it on mine for good....

I don't own a Compadre but I can tell you the little coil vastly improves the Silvers ability to sort through iron & trash. There is an internal trim potentiometer for the ground balance. You can boost the setting on the small coil if you feel brave.

I got really brave & made mine externally adjustable.

Now my Troy X2 is the backup detector.

I did use the 4" in heavy iron, it is better. It's not that the silver is aweful in Iron, as far as mos detectors go, it's great.

I did not try the 5.75" on the umax, because I won't pay the new price when I can get a used compadre for nearly the same price. I'm not talking about the $125 asking price lately. Even at $110 it's still a decent deal. Last year I saw 2 on eBay sell in the $80s shipped.

A local sponser had a used 5.75" for the silver umax at $70??? I almost bit, but bought another 4" at a reasonable price, just to play with again. Then sold it last week to cover the used compadre.

Here's what I have now with the compadre: A backup machine that's great in iron and surprisingly deep in all metal. It's better balanced and feather light.
Higher frequency... All around a different machine.

Some day I'll get the 5.75" for the silver and leave it on. Seems like it's a rare selling item these days.

Darkflight- congrats again on your first ring. It's really nice

Had a tough time on my decision. Had a Royal Sabre with a broken 8" coil and the 4" coil was kinda slow going so I opted for the 5.75" coil. Sometimes I wish I'd gotten the Compadre. But this way I put an oldie but goodie back into operation as a backup for my Silver.
