On the hunt...

There's a legendary battle that took place in my neck of the woods back in the 1700's between the "torries and the whigs". The only "real" information I've been able to put together so far has been oral history passed down for several generations. One thing that seems to be consistent is that a group of loyalist led by David Fanning fought/ambushed another group on a little creek that runs through here called "blood run creek". Lengend says it got it's name from the blood of the slain soldiers making the water run red.

Needless to say, I would love to find the site! So far, no one seems to agree on exactly what part of the creek this skirmish happened, so I'm hunting down clues to see if I can piece it together. It would be a pretty cool adventure to find a few musketballs and verify the location.

I just sent you a link with Rev War sites in NC. I have another source book marked on my laptop. I'll try to find it later. The GPS coordinates give you an "Edge". I'm just waiting on a couple more good frosts and I'll be heading south with the GPS! There are 3 good sites within 30 miles of the house. This day job sure messes things up though!
