?? on iron loaded site...

The iron related posts below prompted me to ask a few questions of my own. First off....I'm having silver withdrawels and none since last yr. and only 3 with the Etrac. I'm new to the Et and have about 70hrs on it and about 400 coins (clad) and some junk and rings, toys, the usual, etc. I spent this winter lining up some private and because of the silver withdrawels I hit what I thought was my best chance for silver on this 1910, 1 acre, private that has a history and has had plenty of traffic over the yrs. I've got 10 hrs into the place now with about 50 coins and 3-4 wheaties (40's), no silver. Place is loaded with iron and I hunted with 11" pro, in multi cond mostly with constant nulling for the most part. Picked up some shallow stuff, nothing real deep except for chasing falses. Tried 2TF, 4TF and gave up real fast on that because it was just to loud and constant grunt. I then tried 2TF and 4TF open screen then with 24 on down blocked out.....too much nulling. I'm going to try once more with the 6" EQ2 in 2TF. The biggest problem is the noise is so loud (even in multi-cond) and my headphones have no volume adjustment. Is there a way to quiet the Et down volume wise? That would really help me. I'm also curious about the Ferous multi tone mentioned below? Could someone explain that a little more clear? I hate to throw in the towel on this place just yet but real close.....I thought my trashy ballpark was the worst place to hunt but this iron loaded private and the loud Et is getting to me. I've thought the machine was way loud ever since I've got it.

I was just starting to get rather comfy with the Et even with it being loud but this place I'm working now is the worst I've come acrossed so far and might be beyond my level.

If any one has an ideas how I should tackle this please chime in? I'm using auto+3, recovery fast, deep off, gain 25.......multi/cond, 2TF, 4TF.

Thanks......

I know you hate to spend more money........but, I would invest in some headphones with individual volume controls. I have Gray Ghosts & I love 'em!!
I'm sure there are other good brands also..........Best money I ever spent!
Good Luck!

yes in the menu it has settings for volume ... you say you used 2TF and that sounds like TTF to me, but the nulling is because you still haven't opened up enuff of the screen, use the Minlelab relic setting it has just a small bit of the bottom right blanked out and a small coil is the only coil in a place like that

Yeah......2TF (TTF) both open and with some disc.....my machine is just too loud (seinhauser headphones) so I'll grab my manual and try and find the volume setting? Seems like I looked for it before and didn't find it (?)....that would help a bunch! i don't care that TTF is busy but it's so noisey (LOUD) at present. I'll load up the relic screen also....

Thanks guys for getting back with some tips so quick.....

I like the 6" but this place is huge so I tried the Pro. The 6" just might be the ticket in this mess....

wish me luck...this rookie is gonna need it.

In audio tab there is a setting to control the loudness . I am not where I can look but think it is called Volume. It is above the Volume gain setting. I have found that a good signal will still come trough even if iron is discriminated out. Though leaving it open gives you a nice contrast between signals. Just be careful to not discriminate too much as good targets mixed with iron can change the TID so that it falls in a normally non desirable target discriminated range.

places like that is where I love my Coiltek 10x5. it still covers a good bit of ground but is narrow enough to separate very well

Radioshack sells an inline volume control for the small plug but I don't know about one for 1/4" plugs ---you might check that out ut i agree it's best to have a control on your headphones. The volume gain will give you some control over the "noise" and you can still run the volume limit high. Don't forget to experiment with the threshold pitch even in TTF. I have hunted areas where the "iron tone" was almost a continuos drone like a deep toned threshold--decomposing metalroofing ---move on to a better place.

That's quite close to what I experienced the other day at this site when trying TTF with the 11" Pro. Hoping the 6" does a little better when I try again today.....

Thanks again guys.......

You can control the volume somewhat by lowering the volume limit to 26 and the volume gain down to 20. Your swing speed should be real slow as the deeper silver will not be as loud. I was using the stock headphones running the volume limit at 26 and the volume gain at 18 which helped with the volume but you have to go real slow and concentrate on the sounds and was pulling mercs at 10-12 in.

Well I tried TTF once more at the 1910 home with no luck except for a single clad dime and that came once I switched back to multi/cond. I did dig a lot of junk in TTF but that was probably because I was trying to make real iffy signals into good ones? I did manage to quiet the machine down thanks to a previous posters' advice and that was really nice!!!!!! I have given up on the old place for now and will return in a yr when I have more experience...too tuff for this kid but I did get about 50 coins, a gold ring (2nd this yr), and the usual toy truck, dog tags, etc, etc.

Once I gave up today I drove a few blocks to my "vacant lot" place and hunted for about another 45min and kicked up this clad (2 dimes didn't get in the pic for some reason?) , a couple of keys, the junk pendant, and my 1st silver rosie this yr. It was nice to stumble onto the silver and a pleasure to hunt with the 6" EQ2 again.....think I'll leave it on!!!
