On Edge Pinpointing

Is it me, the hard ground. or just my Detector, causing hard to pin point with coins on edge. This seems especially noticeable with Quarters. I dug several yesterday and missed two inches. All were on edge though.

I think that is just the way it works, if they are straight up on edge a lot of times you will get a PP on both sides and the coin will be in between the 2 PPs. If the coin is on a angle you will only have one PP spot but it will be off from the actual coin location.

I kind of like to think of it like this, if that coin were a flashlight and was projecting a light beam, where that light beam would come out of the ground is about where you will PP.

On edge coins are usually a little more difficult to pinpoint. I found out that with my Sov. after I did my best to pinpoint I will kneel down on the side that gave me the best pinpoint to start the digging. Many times I have been off by a couple of inches and usually the coin was more towards the good pinppoint (on my the side of the hole) and in the wall of the hole. This is for on edge coins though, not coins laying flat. Looks like we both need a little more practice.
Good luck Gary

If they are on a slight angle, they will pinpoint off center. Do an airtest and you will see. Nothing you can do about it... just the nature of the beast.

Thanks I just got a Garrett pinpointer and it is helping me find the coins before they are disrupted. In reality it seems very few coins are really flat in the ground. I guess I am very lucky my Cortez if finding all these On Edge Coins to begin with.
