After 37 years of detecting, I went off the deep end and bought a Minelab Excalibur II today. Be here Monday. OMG......so folks, I am going to be hunting primarily lakes that are down about 6 to 8 feet, but plan to get into the water as well......I have so much to learn. LOL

Any tips on settings?, books?, secret spots?,

Is there ANYONE in the DFW area that would be willing to share a bit of knowledge, hands on style?

So many questions, and not to mention I might even be chasin a hurricane soon, and be in the Carolinas as an insurance adjuster....sheesh!

OK, I am pumped. I love my Etrac, love my explorer II....now I am gonna love my excalibur!

Thanks for listening to the water newbie.......

This picture of settings was lifted directly from an OldBeechnut post. I've found I run a little lower on sensitivity, but his settings put you right in the range. Listen to his sage advice!

I have an explorer II and a gpx 4500, recently purchased an excalibur II while working in NC and by far I have found it the easiest detector to use yet. I basicly use the same settings as the picture above and have been to the beach two sets of days off. I find beach hunting quite enjoyable too, been the most lucrative hunting I have done as well. I think you will be very happy with it. I have been

Congratulations on your new machine. With the price of gold hopefully you will have it paid for soon. Sorry about the drought conditions down there but offers an excellent opportunity for treasure hunters. Good luck and HH :minelab:

You'll learn the tones. Just scoop up everything that isn't iron. I don't know about the Excal but on the Sovereign the AM mode has a little bit of discrimination. Around where a nickel hits on the tone scale, when in AM mode, the AM tone changes. I don't remember off hand which is which but you can check it with a nail and a quarter.... anyway, right around where the nickel hits there is a tone shift. one goes low-high-low and the other is high-low-high. It is subtle but it really helps in those places that are not really trashy and you can use AM. It might not do you much good if you are looking for gold but for coins it is great because you can move faster in AM mode. I have wanted an Excalibur for a couple of years. The SovereignGT was my first detector and it is a GREAT machine. I think you are going to be amazed at what the Excal will do in water or on land.
Best of luck to you, find some gold!!!

Good Luck Dennis ! You might as well put your other detectors in storage. The Excal is awesome , and you're never gonna want to leave the water. I bet you're gonna score big in the dried up lakes.

welcome aboard, now you ll find the goodies..:clapping::detecting:
go slow and learn the machine...
congrats
