Omega arrived.

Hi all. My Omega arrived yesterday, but unfortunately I wont have time to use it for a few days. A big thank you to Mike Hills, who put me onto someone who was able to tell me who are the new Aussie importers and distributors for Teknetics. Am very much looking forward to learning this new machine, so any info or tips from current users would be greatly appreciated if you have time. The detector came with 3 coils, which gives me wonderful variety and versatility. HH.

Only used mine a couple of times, so no tips yet. I have the small coil and want to get the 11 inch. I am very happy with it so far. Far cry from my first detector which was a metrotech 220a. Easy to operate and has found things I have missed. Make sure you get a probe if you don't have one. The garrett is what I use. Have fun.

I used mine for my first hunt of the year this past Sunday. Just clad hunting with the 11" DD coil on it trying to get some more time with it. Ran it all metal for a couple of hours. Never found a non-ferrous target that gave a ferrous id number or tone. So then ran it in two tone mode for a couple more hours. Had fun and learned a little more. Added another piece of silver jewelry to my collection (small sterling earring without a post) and another nitro chain. Chain turned out to be plated  $8.06 added to the clad jar.

Most of my hunting is done in the d4 tone mode. Just now starting to spend time in the d1 and d2 tone modes.

Good luck with it,
Mike

Where did you find one that offered 3 Coils with the deal ? I haven't seen any deals like this yet, only seen dealers selling with the single coil.
Thanks

Since you got the 11" coil for the Omega I think you will find yourself putting the stock coil away and sticking with the larger more powerful coil. The larger coil transforms the Omega into a depth demon. I recommend you take your Omega out in the field and do a little testing to become familiar with the controls and also gain confidence in the detector's capabilities. Take a sample coin or something else that you desire to detect and bury it at various depths and play with the controls. Bury something on the fringe of the detectors capabilities and listen to how it sounds and ID's on the display. Personally, I have found that fringe targets sound cleaner when using 1 or 2 tones rather than the 3 or 4 tone option. Like I have written many times, don't be afraid to crank up the sensitivity just because you start to hear chatter. It has been my experience and the experience of many others who are using the Omega that the chatter will usually go away once you start to sweep the detector. Good luck with your new Omega and don't forget to let us know how you like it.

Thanks Leo,
I took it out a couple of days ago for a short spin...used the stock coil so that I could start to get the feel of the machine (I thought the 11"DD might be a bit much on my first time out). Found 5 coins (Aust.) 1c x2, 50c x2 and a 1960 silver (50%) sixpence. It is the first time I have found one of our pre-decimal silver coins the first time out with a detector. When I got home I re-read the manual and came to the conclusion that both you and Mike Hills mentioned, i.e. next time out I will try the 2 tone option (I hunted in 4 tones the other day). I might wait until I've used it a couple more times before I put on the big DD coil. I use one with my F4, and love it, but I want to get used to the Omega before I bring out the "big guns". Thanks for your input: much appreciated.

Hi Prospector Mike,
I live in Australia and I got my Omega from Coiltek, who are now the importers and retailers for First Texas (Teknetics and Fisher, anyway). If you live in USA them I'm sure you find a retailer closer to home.

Thanks Mate, I didn't see anything here offering that deal, I seen it at KellyCo in U.S., but I live in Canada and the distributor nor the dealers here are offering any other coil deal with the Omega. Glad to hear you got a great deal on your side in Australia. I can't buy from U.S. as the exchange rate between U.S. and Canada plus customs with U.P.S. when they get there Brokers involved would drive the price higher than what I could buy the T2 or T2LTD if available. Unfortunately. Anyway thanks for the reply and wish you great success with your new Omega.

Personally I would start off with the 11" DD as it's quite a bit different then the F4 with the DD, and the O8 with the concentric, so you'll learn right away how it runs and you'll probably never want to take it off

I need to take my O8 out this week, I've been spending way too much time with the F75 LTD lately, the other machines are looking lonely in the garage.
