Omega and Gemini 3 advice needed

southernboy

New member
I bought an omega new after nearly 20 years of being out of the scene. I was completely amazed. my first trip was to panama city beach. I ordered the detector and the day we was leaving for vacation it showed up so I wasn't about to leave it behind, that was my new toy. the whole time i never thought about beach hunting because I'm from north Mississippi where civil war relics are the hunters choice. i was amazed, and once i got to know my machine was just blown away. I have 2 boys 10 and 11 years old and before the trip was over that's all they wanted to do. we would go out after dark every night and I'm gonna spare you the list of items found not counting enough change to buy batteries for years. I live in a community that had lots of civil war activity, and communities which were already abandoned and forgot about when my dad was a child and he's 70 now. I have nearly 1000 acres of family land that's never had a detector on it. There's actually still some homes standing on this land that date to the mid 1800's. most will be easy detecting this fall because they've been there so long its large timber with no under growth. there's 2 different cemeteries with graves in the early 1800's and many older than that you cannot make out dates on. there was roughly 30 homes on this property which date to civil war but only 2 still stand, one of which is in almost immaculate condition. its sort of spooky to be walking through the woods and walk up on it. I also have a field that's about 5 acres in which i know for a fact has a chest of gold buried which is from my family. I bought a fisher Gemini 3 a few years back and searched for 2 years on and off with no luck. when i was a young child a family member showed me the spot this was buried, and planted a fruit beside it. that was 35 years and i was only 5 years old, since then all the trees died rotted and its just a hay field. I know this is a lot of reading but if any of you seasoned guys can give me advice and suggestions i would appreciate it.

All I can say is, "wow, what spot." Any idea on the size of the chest, wood or metal and how deep it might have been buried? I not real familiar with the Gemini 3, but if you pretty carefully grid searched the 5 acres with the Gemini 3 and weren't able to hit the chest, probably do to its depth, a regular detector probably won't hit it either. I guess there are no signs remaining of any of the fruit trees? Good luck. Oh, and if you need any help, let me know. We may not be to far apart. HH jim tn

Let me correct myself, we actually think its probably a churn. My uncle was plowing and noticed something right at top of the last row he had plowed, this was a new field behind where an old house once stood of my family from generations back. Him and my dad found a plate turned upside down over a pipe. They took turns digging dirt out of the pipe until they couldnt reach any deeper, one of them started pulling and the pipe came up and was 3-4ft long. They both got scared and thought it was a well shaft, burried it and planted a peach tree beside it. A few years later at a family reunion some older family members was talking about a large amount of gold that one of our family from generations back had buried but was never found. He died from a heart attack and his wife died one week later. Nobody was ever able to find it, and it just so happened to be the old house place where we uncovered this pipe. My uncle who found the pipe has been dead many years and my dads mind is gone. I know the gold is there, what makes it worse is its right across the street from my house and i see it every day. There was also civil war troops all over this land, and theres 2 old civil war cemeteries in the woods on both sides of me within a half mile of each other. We found several civil warrelics most of which we found in the winter in our fields after a rain. The best find was a gold button of a suit, that was found without a metal detector laying in a washed out area. I've def got a lot of hunting ahead of me.
