Omega and EMI ?

Does the Omega have issues with EMI ? I have a Gamma 6000 which I really like but most places I hunt have power lines and with some of these sites being older homes, I would like to be able to turn up the sensitivity but the EMI really limits me. I have the Gamma up for sale. I am looking at the Omega since it has the frequency shift feature but I want to know if that really helps combat the EMI. I really like the Greek series MDs but will change brands if I have to.

I do get periodic noise out of the omega, but usually only when its on the ground and Im digging. I even tried it under the BPA high tension lines (@99) and got very little noise as long as the coil is moving. I have been contemplating a thumb switch on the handle to disable the headphones while I dig to eliminate the noise, Ive only used the frequency shift as a "lets see what this does" scenario. Ive not really had a use for the freq shift as of this time. I still am learning the machine, Ive got about 70 hours on it so far. Compared to my Lone Star this thing is the bomb! Usually if the noise is bugging me I turn down the sensitivity until it goes away, but when hunting I usually run it at 99 and ignore the random squawks. If I get a hit I go over it a couple times and if it gives a consistent return I dig. Mine is the red lined lcd version, I heard the early versions were not as well shielded as the newer version although Im not sure which version I have. The G2 is supposed to be the quietest of the bunch, but not as well suited for coins. All in all the Omega is a great machine in my opinion.

There are brands out there that get no EMI. If your heart is set on a Omega, get a newer one that has the spray on shielding and ground. It will cut down on the EMI. (from what I have been told).

All machines have trouble with EMI. The Frequency shift does help in most cases though on the Teknetics Omega 8000.

Had both the Omega and the Fisher F5.
Found most of the time I could only hunt with the Omega set at 55-75 sensitivity with loss of depth.
The Fisher F5 handled EMI much better without much depth loss, using the Gain and Threshold controls.
