Omega 8000 On The Way!!!

I have a new Omega 8000 on the way, should be here next Monday. Can't wait to try it out!!!

I welcome any and all advise on how to get the most out of this machine. I have read everything I could get my hands on pertaining to this detector. Looks like a Discrimination setting of "16" is best for locating masked non-ferrous targets. Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I hope to obtain an 11" DD coil for it ASAP as I understand this coil really makes the Omega an impressive machine, I have see claims of T2 like performance but in a more stable platform.

Best regards,

Keith

Yee HAA!! :wiggle:

That's the least they can do since it seems to be selling well due to my idea to add that larger headphone jack.......Nobody would be giving it a second look or using it with walkman phones- trust me. (They realized this & changed it).

Now, unlike these woodchip newbee "testers" who got them free, nobody has more iron trash to pick though than my Colonial cellar holes. So, lets see how good it is. I'll try one out, and if it finds something my T2 didn't I'll post it right here & buy one. If it works the same in trash as my T2, or not as good, I'll mail it back. I have more detectors than I have room for...I don't need any more unless they can do something my current ones can't. What other field testers offer to mail back a unit they don't like?

To a man, the suck ups who got the free Omegas all say it's not as deep as a T2, so I'm skeptical it's worth $599. Plus, am I reading this right?- you have to buy a DD coil separate to make it good in iron? So, now your paying more than a T2 for a unit just slightly quieter in iron, not as deep, and not built as strong?? Depth is still very important when you get away from the foundation, & the T2 is good at both so I only need to bring 1 unit. So, to me it would have to be a major, noticeable upgrade in iron nails in order to justify having to buy another coil the T2 comes with as stock.......or am I missing something else here?

or loyal to one company or one model in a almost weird kind of way sometimes.I use many different detectors and they all have good and bad points.Glad you got one coming!! but I'll tell you before you get it you gotta get the DD to even make the machine compete target seperation is just not there with the stock coil heck if I had to have the stock coil I wouldnt use it.I had to buy detector and coil man thats $750.00 I have to come out of pocket to test machines for my hunting areas and style of hunting but hey thats half the fun for me! it's worth it . I'm not sure its better than the T-2 myself or as good?It runs amazingly quite in the ground and mine seems to be deeper in airtest than my t-2 I had its pretty much hot across the board on all conductors thats nice. The ergonomics is great best I've seen I also like the one 9-volt!I need to do some head to head comparisons against both the Omega and the T-2 maybe when I get up with a hunting partner of mine who still has a T-2 we can compare. But bad move on teks part on not just giving the DD stock. The Biaxial DD is a revolutionary coil and exceptional at target separation while retaining depth. Why they dont just use there signature coil on all there Teknetics products is beyond me.What are they on right now a round concentric an elliptical concentric and and biaxial on different machines?Strange.I know its all about marketing using pistol grip on one model s-pole on another model elliptical on this model such and such but belive me they would be better off just giving people quality and performance straight out of the box and thats what that Biaxial coil does for the Teks.I remeber when I first got the T-2 I knew right quick if it didnt have that biaxial coil on it it would of been a bomb!.

I use another detector (MXT) alot and If it didnt have the DD coils available for it I wouldnt or shoud I say in my soil I couldnt run it.If a man could figure out how to get that Biaxial on there I belive you would have the ultimate detector. Heck there on the same freq.

Good luck with it

To me that makes it more of a coinshooter & too much like the F5. For my style hunting, especially Colonial sites with many mid-range relics like buttons & bullets, the 13+ frequency is ideal, ala T2. Nails deep buttons I've missed with the single freq. units, and coppers too....
To try the Omega, it would be in hopes of maybe plucking a coin out of the bed of nails & that's about it really for me.....

Please. please.post your findings on the 0/8 machine.

I find it hard to believe there is any possibility of the 0/8 keeping up with the T2...I may be pleasantly surprised..and thats a good thing if it's true.
No question First Texas is making some nice metal detectors in the past few years.
BUT...................I think their covering all price ranges for operation in the market. I also think F/T is trying to build "Brand" loyalty....just like it used to be in the detecting world.
Take the F75 ( Fisher Brand).IMHO it is a great relic hunter, but not such a great coin machine.. Sure it finds coins..and deep ones too. But it also hits a lot of rusty bottle caps, and lots of iron.. The T2 (Teknetics) does much better finding coins in iron fields with discrimination set at 40, and yet it doesn't hit all the small pieces of iron. It also ignores a lot of the rusty caps.. In fact, I find the T2 to be one of the better coin finding detectors I have ever used..(I have used a lot )....... Others claim the T2 does well at deep relics..I have to take their word on that as I have no areas for finding relics ( Civil War) variety. Anyway..First Texas has come up with some awsome detectors of late, and I,like others, always have an interest in learning more about them before making the purchase. So keep us posted....

Remember that post Dave made a few months back about the relationship of the First Texas brands and machines ...

"For several years we've had under development a totally new platform for use in products which don't have to push the extreme leading edge of performance. That platform was first brought into production as the BH Gold and Platinum. With major revisions it became the Fisher F5, and with further revisions the platform became the Teknetics Delta, Gamma, and Omega. Dave was the chief designer for all these products, but most of the actual development work was done by Jorge Anton Saad with assistance from other engineers."

So the O8 should be very much like the Fisher F5 since it is a further refinement of that platform. I would imagine that it would also be similar to a Bounty Hunter Platinum sort of like how the Fisher F75 is similar to a T2.

For those wishing to compare the O8 to the T2, this is what Dave said about the T2 in the same post...

"The Teknetics T2 introduced in 2006 was a totally new metal detector from the ground up, not based on any earlier design. The senior designer was Dave Johnson, and John Gardiner wrote the software. We called it Teknetics because we owned the trademark and because the goal was to be on the leading edge of metal detector technology and performance, just as it was with the original Teknetics."
