Omega, 11dd vs Ultimate 13" if you didn't have either

If you didn't have an 11" dd would you get the Ultimate 13" instead. Will have an Omega soon with 10" concentric and 10"dd coils.

Thanks,
Rick, N. MI

Yes.

But,
I am a big fan of the 5 for extreme trash or metal fence/totlot or EMI situations.

I am currently using a 5x10 on my O8. The U13 may well be my next purchase.

Probably mine too. I had a Gold Bug Pro with the 5x10dd coil and was impressed with it in trashy sites but I'm sure the 5"dd is better.

Thanks,
Rick

I have just used my new ultimate 13 inch,It works great, got a 925 Italy necklass at 15-16 inches. HH Wayne in Delaware

Monte,

I'd be inclined to agree with you on the aftermarket coils except for Minelab detectors.

Their apathy towards their customers is amazing.

Yes, they make a good product, but in my opinion they care very little for their customer's desires.

It is the reason they don't make a straight shaft for their Excal models or a complete range of coils in the different frequencies for their x-terra models.

Their reason: after market companies will do that, so why bother? I heard those words straight from a Minelab rep. Amazing.

Sorry Monte, I am going to have to disagree with you on this one. I have the Ultimate coil on my G2 and I see no reason to EVER put the stock 11" back on. The Ultimate is a MAJOR improvement on the G2 of which I have proven with real in the ground tests. In my soil , a solid 1 &1/2 to 2" depth increase without loosing any sensitivity to small targets and better TID to depth.

I have to say that the Ultimate 13 coil made by Detech is far superior than the stock coil as i use one on my T2,and just because its not made by the same people who make the detector does not mean that it wont work better. The built quality is certainly the same and in some areas ie the cable and connector are far better than the stock coil.Over here in the UK these coils are selling like Crazy as you do get better depth, better coverage and certainly still as crisp as the normal coil on very small items and the weight is only gramms heavier. But when you compare the Ultimate 13 to the Optional 15inch coil by Teknetics i agree that its 2inches bigger but it may well be a good coil but it is not deeper and as for the weight of the coil it throws the whole balance out the window and i cannot fathom out why 'Teknetics' built such a bag of spanners and i have never seen anyone use one of the official optional coils from Teknetics apart from the great little 5inch.

Ok the thread was about the Omega and not the T2 but what i am saying is it makes no odds how long has been detecting some after market coil manufactures that solely make coils for many brand of detectors should not be written off, technology moves on and sometimes it wise to remove ones blinkers and try something new.

These are of course my own opinions and not aimed at anyone specific, maker or product but observation gleamed from using them.

Happy Hunting

Aftermarket is the only way you are going to get the various coil sizes you need, as the mfgs are only going to make the standard bread and butter coils. They aren't going to make the speciality coils we need.

Now I find myself buying a metal detectors because someone offers a coil size I need to work with it or it will work with a particular speciality coil I already have.

You mention the G2. The initial post was asking about the Omega and from my experiences with many aftermarket coils some work OK, some work less than acceptable, and some have worked better than I anticipated. I liked the 5
