Oldest silver yet

Back to my civil war relic site today for an hour to see if I missed any ' easy' signals. Still using the T2, it's been working great for me so far this year so it's replaced the Etrac for now. Settings were sens. 90, 0 disc, 2+ tones, gb 65, stock 11 dd coil. Found the more modern silver quarter almost immediately about 5 inches down solid 91 on vdi. Next I got a mid 70s signal I believe. Bent down to start digging and the seated half dime was literally right on top of the ground on a root from a small tree. Couldn't believe it. My first half dime ever. 1857. Then I hit the 5 point start three Ringer . Overall a great day detecting.

Congratulations on your oldest silver find half dime! You've got a good eye to spot that little rascal. At a site like that you will dig an older coin - I hope it's gold! Best of luck and...

Amazing finds! Congrats!

Believe me blind squirrel, I am looking for that gold coin! The last couple coins dug at this site were 1858 flying waggle, 1857 half dime, and a 1859 fatty Indian cent so there very well could be gold. I am working on getting all the 6 inch and shallower targets out so I can go into all metal and see what's hanging out deeper. I did go into all metal one day there just to see what's deep and got a v nickel and a 1911 barber dime and I've dug bullets deeper than my propointer so there are some very deep targets.

You have the right site and a GREAT strategy for getting the gold or other goodies. Don't overlook the "big signals" - a foot or longer while in pinpoint mode. More times than I can remember they turn out to be mini-caches or coin spills. Just might be where the gold is hiding! Best of luck to you and...
