HI
My father has and older white's metal detector, siting in are basment. He told me about it, just the other day,and its still in good shape and condition to. It is a 1974 modal. will the old detectors form whites or any other company be worth any thing today,or not?

write back . priscilla

priscilla,

your dads old white should be as effective now as it was back then. i have an old 6000 D that, with a set of batteries, is ready to go. i also keep my original coinmaster TR one knob find-it-all hanging next to the back door ready to find dropped nuts and bolts when i work on my various lawn mowers etc.

look at the detector and see what numbers and letters identify it. that will help us give you advice as to what uses it can be put to. as for "worth" that depends on wheather or not you will get enjoyment from its use. if you intend to sell it to reap its "worth" don't quit your job to live off the profits.

HI

Pris..

Your father's Coinmaster TR operated at 100 kHz and is what I refer to as a Straight TR (Transmit-Receive) without any MOTION Filters.

Tune it with a very fine threshold and make sure you maintain THAT threshold when scanning the ground. Whisper Target responses are the deeper targets... just make sure they are coin size, so measure off before you start plugging.

Coinmasters 66Ts, IVs, and Alaskans are particularly effective in locating desireable targets missed by some of todays top detectors.

I've been after White's to build an updated 100 kHz TR as they make excellent Ghost Towners as well. Last updated one was built by Compass: The Legend, in a Scanner Chassis that enjoyed Variable Auto Tune Assist, Power Control, and could be Belt or Pole Mounted. This was based on the original Judge, 77Auto, IB Series.

Advantages:
* Excellent 'See Through' Trash Characteristics
* Ignores most small ferrous
* Scratchy Narrow Response on Small Foil Trash
* Smoother Characteristics on Desireable Non-Ferrous Coins, Jewelry

I used a TR 66 back in the late 60's and found buckets of silver and other coins and rings. It was a great machine. The only problem I found was when I used it over highly mineralized ground. I remember taking it to a park in Key West and it went nuts with the minerals. Up dated to a Bounty Hunter Red Barron and that took care out the problem.
I now use a Fisher cz7a pro and a Whites SFX
Take out and use it-I wish I still had mine

 Hello. This is Dirtfisher. The older Whites metal detectors sell very well and for good prices on Ebay. Most people looking to buy used should remember that any detector over 10 years old will have a tendency to have dried out circuitry and crackly wiring. Personally I think the older Whites units were as good or even better than some of the newer ones but its best to buy new whenever possible. Happy Hunting.
