Older Tesoro Cutlass II and Silver Sabre II

Sven

Well-known member
Well, it arrived yesterday, looked at the PCB and it is marked Silver/Cutlass II.
I am assuming they used the Cutlass II board and added a few things (bunch of empty holes) on the PCB to turn it into a Silver Sabre II.

Anyone have a Silver Sabre II they wouldn't mind opening up and taking some circuit board pictures?

I am game for trying to make it a better machine.

Would be happy to post any mods and results..................

What were you thinking?

I have reverse engineered schematics for the Silver Sabre II but it does match up to my Cutlass PCB.
Not sure now what model Silver indicated on the back of the PCB really is.
Anyone have any info, would appreciate it.

Sven,i will try and get a few pictures later on if possible on the Silver Sabre 11 circuit board, will send them over.

Maybe I can upcycle it into a Tejon....LOL

I'm sure you know the Silver Sabre II has a threshold based all-Metal that the cutlass doesn't have.

Wasn't too sure about the Cutlass if the actually had a true all metal mode or if it was like the current Silver
with just a lower discrimination setting. Wasn't quite sure if the internal pot was for GB or threshold. There's one way to find out.

After doing some air tests between all metal mode and disc mode, I don't see any air depth differences, except on a couple real small pcs. of gold.
Do will assume it has no true all metal mode.

Air testing depths are pretty good using an 8" and 7" coils. About the same as current Silver Umax.

I have a real silver sabre 2 don't really use it much. It's a nice machine. Hits coins well I've dug stuft to 7 inches with it. It's certainly not a horrible machine I just think I'm going to try for a little newer Tesoro machine.

If some times my posts sound funny, its the nutty cat jumping on my lap, tapping the keyboard........... with it's paws. Sometimes takes 12 minutes to type a few lines.

Meant to say
Doing some air tests with the Cutlass II found in all metal mode and disc mode, I didn't see any air depth differences, except when a couple real small pcs. of gold was passed over the coils.
So I will assume it has no true all metal mode like the current Silver Umax. The internal pot will be GB.

Air testing depths are pretty good using both 8" and 7" coils. Also about the same as current Silver Umax.

I had one of those cutlass 2s, not very deep but it had fantastic audio I could tell dimes from quarters loony and toony sounded the same, but different from quarters. To check out a new spot this detector was great, I think it has a love for caps, And yes the one I had had the 7 inch coil. Another one I should not have sold

decent performing detector for the $$$, and was simply a Silver Sabre II minus some components. While I usually preferred to have, use and sell the Bandido and Bandido II, I also kept a Silver Sabre II and Cutlass II around that I'd grab and put to work on occasion, or use as 'loaners' for my kids, for friends, or for property owners so they could join the search when I wanted to coax access to their property out of them. I preferred the Silver Sabre II with a Threshold-based traditional All Metal mode, but we know how well the Tesoro's can isolate a target in the motion Disc. mode, and most sites I hunted were not grass covered.

I wouldn't mess with it as they were fine as they came. Just make sure the GB is set for peak performance, and enjoy the Cutlass II w/7" coil. I used the 7" Concentric coil on virtually every Tesoro I put to work a good 95% of the time. Matter of fact, I still use my 7" as well as 6" (they call it a 5.75) more than any other Tesoro coil.

I slowed down the motion a bit an increased air depth by 2-3" depending upon the target.
Works really nice.
