Older style Excal 1000 ?

Hi,
I am thinking about trading my DFX for an older style Excalibur 1000. The 'Blue Sword" model. I know very little about the Minelabs other than what I've read on the forums. Is this a reliable, good machine or is it subject to the problems I've read about. I also see it's not in production anymore so I was wondering if anyone knows if Minelab still services them ? Any info, advice, experience on this machine would be greatly appreciated before I pull the trigger on this deal. Thanks in advance.

It is a fine machine when working properly but be advised that Minelab may not have all the replacement parts should you need it repaired
Read the post about my excal took a drink of water or something to that effect
IMHO I would not go older than Blue headphones

Thanks erikk. Are the red headphones older than the blue ones...that's the color it has. I have no idea what these things are worth ?

Yes red is older. U want to stick with the 1000 without the sword if U want to be sure of getting it repaired by Minelab

Thanks again.

I recently bought a 1997 sword model Excal and I love it. Still in fantastic shape and is just one awesome machine. These were made here in the US and are built like a tank. As far as Minelab servicing it - it seems you have more to worry about with the Excal IIs as I am always reading about people having trouble with them. I really don't see what could go wrong that cannot be fixed.

If they don't have the parts they cant fix it- some of the parts from the Swords are not interchangeable with the newer ones and THEY ARE OUT OF STOCK Eventually everything electronic will break

I am betting a part could be fashioned to work in it if (big IF here) it was necessary.

No biggie if it can't be fixed as I will just buy another one. Right now I am just enjoying this awesome machine decorated with a blue sword.
