Older Garretts

morose

New member
I'm new to metal detecting and was just given two Garrett detectors.
Both are in excellent shape and seem to be working fine. My question is am I wasting my time with these older models or should I look at a new one. I was looking at the Scorpion because I would like to nuggett hunt as well as occasional coin/relic. Pro and cons on my units? 1.) Garrett ADS VLF/TR Deepseeker and 2.) Garrett American S4. Thanks, Steve in California

Hi Steve and welcome to metal detecting. Well I am a new Garrett dealer so we are sort of in the same boat. I would use them and decide which one is best for you and get your feet wet first. Once you have sometime under your belt and think you like putting the coil to the soil, then you might want to upgrade to a new unit. Let me tell you the detectors have gotten way lighter and easier on batteries. They offer many new features too. If you want to stay with Garrett the new Ace 250 is quite a deal and has full digital readout and decent depth. Runs on 4 AA batteries and weighs 2.7 lbs.. It also has available 2 optional coils beside the one that it comes with. The 250 has taken the detector world by storm ! Very popular instrument indeed. I wish you the best and if you need any help let me know. CU later Steve and nice meeting you. God Bless.
