I have been wondering how to find old maps of my area to find out where old buildings and houses were. I just don't know the right wording I guess because haven't been able to find anything. Any help at all would be a help. Thank you.

Try Sanborn Maps or Google your town ,city or county. For instance type in "Historical maps of Los Angles CA, or Historical maps of Los Angles County CA." . Best choice is Sanborn Maps for builds, etc.

Might want to go to go to the Maps forum here on Finds.

I have found older maps at the local library and at the historical society in my area. Some have been free others are available for a nominal fee.

Those older maps are a history lesson in themselves. We have an excellent genealogy room at a nearby library, but I can't get along with the folks that run the place. I go to another library that doesn't have as much genealogy information as the other, but the staff treats everybody with courtesy and respect, unlike the library I used to go to.
