Old water wells

Remember old house site have at least one well maybe more, ... and you probably won't have service down there if you survive the fall, so always let someone know where you will be detecting... people
Get lost, hurt, phones die, and night will surely come.... it's too easy to send a location text to someone before you leave the parking area.

Hi Herb, That's Great advice! especially for solo hunters. I've seen several old dug wells over the years, and all of them were traps for the unsuspecting. One was pretty deep and had a dried up old cow in it. I was standing next to a digging Buddy when he fell almost waist deep through a rotting piece of Tin that was covering an old well. Had he not grabbed a small bush to stop his fall he would have been down and out of site in a heartbeat! The well was only a little bigger than shoulder wide and very deep, and covered with a piece of leaf covered rotted tin, completely camouflaged . HH, Charlie

Every old homestead has at least one lurking.... laying there like a bear trap... Don't be that guy
