Old vs. New ...Input needed

I have a 15 year old Garrett CXIII with extra coils. I love the features, including non-motion All Metal mode, but I know they upgraded this model after mine was made in the mid-nineties with 20% more depth.

I can still get $300 on ebay PLUS sell the coils for an addition $125-$150.

Am I better off "trading down" to an ACE 250, which will most likely get me better depth, or should I keep the unit due to the added features not available on the ACE.

What is your opinion?

Keep the old and buy an ACE 250. You probably know that"Garrett CXIII" better then anyone else, so keep it and use it for a backup, or when you take someone out metal detecting who doesn't own one (yet).

But you won't be trading down good neighbor! That's a good machine that CXIII but it not as good as ACe 250 from what I've seen of both machines!

Get the extra coils with the 250 and your set!

you need to ask yourself a few questions before you decide.
1 am i happy with the performance of the machine
2what type of hunting and how often do i hunt.
3how important is a lot of depth.
4even though the cx111 is working good now will Garrett repair it if something goes wrong with it.they are no longer repairing their older machines.
i would keep the older one and get a 250.i did and i still own a gta1000 and three of the freedom ace series 1 2and 3 plus.and although older and do not have tid or the bells and whistles still read as deep as the 250 in my test garden.i guess iam sentimental.good luck with your choice.

I guess it comes down to features vs. depth.

The old CX was and still is a good machine. If possible you should hang onto it and pick up a 250 and enjoy the benefits of both worlds.

I do not think I am willing to give up the superb features of the CXIII, and doubt the Ace can beat it for relic hunting.

I may pick up the Ace as a "second" machine, for the parks and coin shooting. I could have picked up a new one for $180 at a hobby store going out of business 2 weeks ago. I am a fool for passing it up.
