old vs. new---impressions

as a long time owner of a silver sabre 11, i pulled the plug and bought a new vaquero. the silver works great--but i am looking for what i believe will be some extra versitiliy in searching for civil war relics and having a variety of different coils. i was not interested in the bells and whistles of screens, touchpads etc. as the real success comes from making enough swings.

my first impressions:

size--obviously the vaquero is tiny--and weighs about a pound less--easy swinging. so is the silver. the vaquero is easier to break down/store and travel with.

quality--candidly, the ss looks/feels more robust.

vaquero color--fugly

operationally, i haven't used the vaquero--just turned it on, did a few tests and listened to the it's threshold tone--sounds like bambi squeeking in terror. the s/s--mellow and very easy to hear tonal differences in all metal mode. the vaquero isn't as "easy" as a turn on and go--but the learning curve won't be to bad.

pinpointing--both are great.

discrimination/sensitivity--hey, i bought another tesoro--can't beat'em.

summary: i have a pulse for the beach and two for dry land. not enough room in the closet-so the silver sabre 11 is now the odd man out and is now on ebay.:detecting:

Kimber I also plan on using the Vaquero for hunting deer and cyoty, as it make a great rabbit in distress call or doe call . I am like you still got to try it , ground is froze badd up hear in Minnesota

The vaquero squeals ,and wails when fooling with the gb knob. But that ceases once the hunt begins.

Older Tesoro's may have been heavier and not as deep but in experienced hands the audio of older Tesoro's just told you more relative audio variances...

I loved the Vaquero I owned, but it didn't sound like the older Tesoro's I have had in the past. Everything pretty much sounded the same to me, unlike my Silver

Sound is a very nebulous and personal thing. I love the high pitched sound of the Silver Sabre umax and the Bandito II umax. Not so much the lower tone of the Eldorado umax and the Conquistador umax although I can use them just fine. Definitely didn't like the tone of my Vaquero until I had the high tone option installed. I'd like it even higher, but at least it's better to my ears. I seem to find targets regardless, so I guess it's not a big deal.

I just had a fellow poster ask me about his Royal Sabre and it got me to remembering the great times with it so now I'm gonna be using it for a while.
