HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) - An 88-year-old World War Two veteran fought off an armed robber who broke into his home and demanded money.
Art Iwasaki refused to give the robber any money, and the two struggled until the masked robber gave up and fled from his home Tuesday afternoon.
Iwasaki is one of the veterans who was honored during a recent celebration of the 60th anniversary of the desegregation of the U.S. armed forces.
He earned a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star after fighting across France and Italy, and being wounded three times.
The robber is being described as about 20-years-old, 6 feet tall and 160 pounds with reddish brown hair.
Police say the man had been casing the neighborhood by going door-to-door, asking for donations to his school.
