old TV show....

OK i was watching TV yesterday the old TV shows,i was watching the Rockford files,at the beginning of the show they should Jim Rockford coming into his beach front trailer and in the back ground there was a guy with a metal detector and scoop in hand watching as Jim Rockford was walking toward his trailer, now this show was from the 70s not sure when this show was filmed but it just caught my attention that here was a TV show from back in the good ol days for myself and here's a guy in background with a scoop and metal detector with headphones on, i couldn't see which machine or type of scoop,anyone know about this or seen this show??:detecting:
this was on the RTV CHANNEL..
 
Interesting, I can only imagine what the detecting would have been like at that time.
