Hello all,
I saw the great post from Nancy from IL, about coils for the MXT. I'm looking for your experience on these conditions, using a MXT.

-Old trench used for water skiing in the 50's, been dry for 40 years
-Caliche (?) soil, sorry about the spelling
-In (3) hunts, only found halfs and gold ring, see pic (so what is he complaining about)
-I've been using relic mode, disc set @ 5
-Little trash, no pull tabs, no cans, basically silent hunting with exception of occasional 22 shell or bullet
-Flat terrain with very few obstructions
-And I have permission to hunt to boot

I got skunked today, only hunted area for a total of 6 hours
Given the info above, I would like to get 2-3 more inches of depth. Your coil choice please and thanks

You didn't say what you where running for gain. I'd run it as high as possible with the detector still stable. With no trash I would set the Disc to just eliminate small iron. On mine that is just around 2. Set it to just eliminate a 3" nail. Also I'd run the Trac locked after balancing. Since I don't know how many minerals are in your ground I don't know if a DD or concentric coil would work better for you. For me in my ground my 10" DD has been my deepest coil. As soon as the heat breaks and I get out I will be testing the 10x12 SEF that I have been loaned. For those deep targets go as slow as you can. Rob

Thanx rcasio44 for the input

I am using the stock Eclipse 950 coil
Gain at +1
Disc at 5

I will lower the Disc and lock the ground balance next time out since the ground is very stable

Hope to read any info you post on the 10X12 SEF

I am with rcasio44 that discrimination is to high. Sounds like you could be running it a little under 3 maybe 2. Coil 6 X 10 DD maybe 1400 if you have it. Sounds like the ground is pretty clean so bump the gain as high as is stable for depth.

Yes, Rob has it pinpointed. You did fantastic and you'll get more depth with his suggestions. Remember....SLOW SLOW SLOW! Overlap your swings. Sounds like you've got some good soil there. Keep us posted. VERY nice finds and I bet many more to come. HH, Nancy

Thanx all for the advice on settings and such. I cranked her up and lowered the disc to 3, slowed down my pace and dug every good target. Still very little junk, a couple of bobby pins, screws and parts from boats etc. The only keeper today was this Catholic military 4 way medal. Was over 100 today so short hunt.
thanx again for all the great advice

That's a very nice find. You're doing great. Thanks for the pictures and sharing your finds. HH, Nancy
