I went to a spot I've hit many times over the years. It's a rocky area covered by fairly shallow dirt. None of the targets are very deep, but the area is very overgrown and HIGHLY trashed out.
Pull tabs, pop tops, crown caps, screw caps, foil - you name it, it's there and in abundance !! The best time to hit the area is after the snow when the wild grass is flat and the leaves are off the bushes. The area had high activity from the 1880's through the 1920's, but now it's just wild and neglected.
In the past I've found flying eagles, fatties and other Indians, V nickels, buffaloes, seated dime, many barbers and Mercs, standing quarter, silver Washingtons and Rosies. Seems every time I go there I pull a couple more but I really have to work for them !!
Sunday I took my 6" DD exc. coil and poked around (only thing that really works because of the dense trash) . No silver this time but a few keepers: V nickel 1899, buffalo 1923, Indians 1902 & 1905, wheaties 1910 (2), 1914, 1918, and a few from the 50's. Also found part of an old pin and a button.

Man I just love to see what everyone else is finding. Looks like it was a great day for you.:beers:

Congrats! That's my favorite kind of site. One that keeps on giving for a long time and makes you a better detectorist because the site requires patience. Nice digging. :super: - Jim

It's nice to pull some keeper's from a old area like that, that has been worked over and over. You did good. Are you the only one who hunt's there?

My best to all of you , Mickfin

Ive used a few Whites myself, i really dont think you will have a problem with anything ... well, maybe pinpointing. Its one of those things that will just hit you one day when you are out and hear one of those deep coins. Go hunt with someone thats skilled on the II and it will speed things up. Those were some GREAT GREAT finds... i need me a spot that keeps on giving.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who's hunted this spot. I saw divots there years ago. This is one of those spots that isn't for the "faint of heart" types. Most would give up after a few minutes of frustration - heck I come close until I finally find a target. The area is hard to move around in - lots of bushes and small trees, some high grass areas, uneven ground and a hellish amount of small trash !! It's a challenge but I've pulled some great keepers from there over the years.

Nice finds, I had a little luck today to, jumped on the 4 wheeler and ran down the road to a old homestead and managed to pull a 1898 indian head out of a hole with 2 nails, in about a half hour. kinda like that place you were hunting, rough.. still waiting for my 10x12 sef coil to get here, and give it another try
