Old Stage Stop,School and House

Fish N Chips

New member
I have been researching an old stage stop, school and house close to me. The structures were all wood, so there are no foundations left to locate them. I was close to it the other day while cutting wood and decided to swing by. I was pretty worn out after cutting up a couple chords of oak, but pulled out the detector and went for a walk. I located a couple nice flats with stone walls, pecan and almond trees, black walnuts and large pastures that have been cleared. I unfortunately forgot my hand mattock, and with the current concrete like dry conditions found digging tough with the Lesche. I swung along and located a number of square nails (I was looking for the iron to locate the houses), and some old glass and tin cans scattered around. Only trouble is, hunters have used the spot for a number of years and modern trash also abounds. I located some older shotgun head stamps and then got a good signal, but found it wanted to null out at two different locations, around lead and around brass, I figured it was one target on top of another. I dug it and out pops and old carbine bullet about 4" down! I need to micro it for size, but it looks like an old sharps. There is another spot close by I have pulled a lot of old 1800's brass casings, but this was my first intact bullet from the area. I was pretty happy with it.

I plan to head up there this Saturday, put on my small 5.75 coil and work the area slow and methodical. I think there is some more waiting to be found.

That is a nice find, I really like finding unfired cartridges. I am sure there has got to be more at that place. I like the history aspect and the old pictures. Hope it works out well for you! What detector where you using?

I was using my Eldorado. It is my go to detector. The ground balance is not really needed in my area, but the tones and discrimination is great.

looks like a nice old round
