Old Sea Hunter XL 500 Pulse compared to new PI machines ??

Hi all- I am going to buy a new PI machine for Maui and Calif. beaches. I have an old Garrett Sea Hunter XL 500 Pulse that I have not used for many years, primarily because I don't need it where I live because my CZ20 works great for the water hunting I do. ( few hot rocks or mineralization). However, I have more time to check put Maui and Calif. beaches but if I remember correctly, My Garrett didn't work that great on black sand beaches. ( Me not being familiar with PI machines maybe ??) Anyway, my question is simple: Is the new double field Whites or the current PI Pro that much better than my old Garrett ? In other words, is the technology that much better in the newer machines to warrant buying one ?? Thanks so much for your help...

You might also consider a Goldquest Aquasearch or Garrett Infinium LS detector too. The Whites are fine machines as are those I just mentioned. Each will do the job they are designed for, but each has it's limitations too. They are all a cut above the old XL500's in my estimation and I still own and occasionally use 2 of them!!! I also own and have come to like an Infinium.

I've read in several posts that Excaliber type machines have problems in Maui and California waters so a PI is the way to go.

Thanx Cupajo- I think I'm leaning towards the new Dual Field Whites- seems like it has features that are even better than the Surf PI's that seemed pretty good to begin with according to posts I've read. Out of curiosity, how fast can you effectively swing the XL 500 and still not miss anything ?

Never really paid much attention to "Swing Speed"!! I step forward and swing the coil at a slow almost leisurely pace. Any signal reaction that gets my attention and I spend a few seconds concentrating on that spot to determine if I have a valid signal or not. Any repeatability no matter how faint gets dug!!!! Sometimes I dig just to investigate a "maybe I heard something" signal and find Gold!!!!!!!!

GL&HH Friend,

Cupajo

I almost forgot--------You will always miss something, because no-one gets 'em all, but I'm workin on it!!!

Optimum coil swing speed for Sea Hunter XL-500 PI on land is the same as when in 3 ft of water.
Adjust the Audio and Eliminator at the point of search.
