Old Scout Camp

When you read about asking "old timers" about gathering places outdoors in hopes of uncovering some untoched ground,it makes me smile. You don't have to be that old to draw from the memory bank.
In the 1960s, the evil twin and I caddied. At the border of the golf course was a girl scout camp. You would not know it was there even years ago since there were no signs and nothing visible from the road to identify the palce. Today, the only thing that still stands is an old flag pole. We are guessing the campe came into use in the early 1940s. It is probably about a 3 acre area. So far we have pulled up 139 coins, the oldest a 1909 penny. So far we have 10 silver with the best being a worn 1916 dime.
We hit it hard last year but going solo twice this year, I picked up 14 more coins, all pennies of which 7 were wheats. You think you have them all but you find out you didn't.
You don't have to be in a rocking chair to have information on some untapped property. If you have contacts in scouting, church or fraternal groups, pick their brains. There are camps, some long forgotten, out there.
Good hunting.

Old folks (Seasoned citizens ) are THE best source of info. Some of them will blab all day about the old days. That is a huge help in finding places that won't ever appear on a map. Plus, they're fun to talk to. It's a bonus in that kind of research. I'mm 44 so they're not looking as old as they used to.
