old school gives up some goodies

not sure why I have never hunted this school before, guess I forgot it was there, it is about 20 minutes from my house so not too bad. It is dated 1916 on the front and it is still in use. There is a open play area and a ball field, the ballfield is literally infested with pull tabs. At first I started on a gold quest and was digging the tabs, hoping for a ring. Then I wandered over to the open grassy play area, started getting clad here and there. Kept working farther and farther away from the school.

No old coins yet.............I was clear at the edge of the school yard when I got my first wheat, 1953, kept cruising along and I got a nice deep signal, down about 7-8" pops out an indian 1891, but it is corroded real bad. Oh well, still fun to find. Few more yards I get a deep quarter signal, I am saying under my breath, let it be silver, well it was a nice shape 1935 Washington. Then just a few more yards I got another real deep signal, dug down to about 8" and got a 1916 wheat.

I was out of time and had to leave, but plan on returning to this site in the future, I am sure there is more goodies here to be found.

Dang you're on the good stuff like a mockingbird on a June bug! Great looking finds. What coil were you using? Great looking Quarter too. I see on the Accessories classifieds you just purchased a 3 khz coil also..........Life is fixing to change!

Congrats on the very good finds! The silver, IH, and wheats sure are sweet! Nice hunting, Beale.

I was using the stock coil.........I am curious if the 3khz will add any depth for deep silver and coppers......I am hoping

You may or may not see much depth enhancement on dimes, with the 3 kHz. But you will on those big silver coins like you've been coming up with! A lot will depend on your soil composition. If you are hunting in all metal with multiple tones, I'd bet you'll appreciate the audio distinction produced by that pesky old iron on those farm sites as much as I do. Wiggle the coil over the target as you slowly drag it toward you. Iron will produce a drop in pitch (harmonics) as the target leaves the detection field of the coil. A couple hours in the field and I think you will develop an appreciation for the 3 kHz. HH Randy
