Old roadside park.

Well, I found this old roadside park called Wildwood Park just outside of this old town that my dad was born in. The place was pretty run down and very overgrown with brush and weeds and the worst part was the no trespassing signs. I don't know who owns the property, but I did go in and just look around and there was about three or four cabins caved in. Across the road is where the picnic tables use to be, but there is a house there now and it's private property. Sure would like to be able to go in with a weed whacker and check it out, but it probably isn't very likely. Back in the early 1900's I guess the owners of the park use to charge people 25 cents to hold their picnics there. I did a lot of driving around and I have a couple of places to check out later on. I will copy a picture of what that park use to look like later. HH.

When I find over grown spots like that! Once I get permission I have a 4'x4' sheet of plywood that I lay over the grass and it mashes it flat once I stand on it! Then I proceed to swing over that area and dig anything that I find! When done I flip it and do it again and again and again!

It's almost a way of gridding an area also!

Thanks for the great tip Mike. I will keep it in mind if I ever find the owner of the property and get permission to hunt that area. HH.

I think you could be correct about there being some barbers at this place. I spent a couple of hours yesterday chatting with a couple of real nice old ladies that run the museum and talk about a ton of information these gals were telling me. I wish I knew shorthand, but if I want to know anything I know just who to talk with.........:) My next time up there I will see if someone might know who owns that property. HH.

Those old places do look promising. Sure would like to be around there just after someone goes in and clears that area out........:)

Ask for permission, if they say no, tell them you will mow the grass in exchange, has worked for me before but I always wait to see what they will say first. Good luck. John

Good idea about mowing the grass, but behind the building that use to be a restaurant and gas station are some falling down cabins and the heavy brush will need more than a lawn mower........:) I will be back there and for sure find out the owner of that property. Thanks. HH.

Eddie....I would even volunteer to help you de-weed the place. It looks like an awesome site to hunt, the kind we all look for.

Are you saying that you would come up here from California to help me weed whack that place?............:) I got another email from one of the old gals who runs the museum there and she said there is a book about a place where my relatives lived back in the early 1920's and she is going to get me a copy as there is some stuff in the book about my grandparents, my dad and aunt and uncles. You will be getting a call from me tomorrow Chuck..........:) HH.
