Old pound?

I found this yesterday.

Anyone ever found one of these? It's stamped with "20 shillings". Is it an old pound from when coins were in high demand and stock was low? :confused:

Interesting find! What is on the other side of the coin? The "20" looks like it has been added later, sometimes traders did this to make there own tokens.

The coin was quite toasted. I looked for signs of life on it, letters, a date, anything... but the only thing on there is the rim around the edge on the back as well. :(
