Rileydog, I found the same thing! Amazing. I only have one have of the clam shell (the male) and I always figured there must be a female half to complete the joke. (I'll send a scan through, but you are right, it is definately 19th century porno!) I was working the bottom of the delaware canal after it had dried up. I saw the "shell" laying shell side up and figured it was a freshwater clam. I kept going over it with the detector and kept getting a signal. I finally picked it up to see what was under it, and found it was the shell itself giving the signal. It was so full of mud that it took awhile to see what was in there! I can't tell you the age, but the site I was hunting was the location of a Union (CW) encampment. All signals were CW era. I think the shell halves are made of pewter. Where did you find your's?

You can catch a lot of fish using the right "bait"

Wow, that is so cool. Nobody knows anything about this thing, brothel token has been mentioned before. Is your in good shape? I was lucky, I found them both together five feet apart, In Chantilly VA. Please send a picture of yours.

rileydogg, as you can see, we've found the same object. Like I said, I found this in a spot which contained exclusively Cival War artifacts, so the odds are that it is from that period but it's not definate. I've looked for years for a link to it but never have found anything. I still don't know if it is made of pewter, pot metal, or aluminum (back when aluminum was worth its weight in silver0. Can you venture a guess?
