Looks like a small froe. A splitting tool typically used in making wooden shingles. At 5" though it's shorter then most I've seen, might possibly have been broken?

Nice finds on the clad and the splitting tool. It always fascinated me the way a blacksmith would make one of those things and a woodworker would use it.
Congratulations. How deep was the Froe? The reason I ask is I've found so much old iron trash, if I get a signal and I'm tired, I leave it behind if it's very deep. That sounds lazy, I know and I may miss a cache in an iron pot, but I used to dig everything and it was all trash. HH

it was down 8 or more but it gave me a bell tone and iron on the ace 250 the bell tone was more then the iron so i did not want to miss out on any thing
