Went cruising Rt-66 one last time yesterday to the west. Stopped and got a shot of the Blue Swallow lit up in all it's glory from yesteryear. This is located in Tucumcari,NM . Kind of a strange looking photo, was my first time trying the HDR process.

I think this is one fantastic shot!! Even looking at the thumbnail I was almost expecting you to say you got this out of a magazine or something! I just love it! Sometimes HDR's look really fakish but this one looks natural. Did you use an hdr program in the camera itself or did you take 3 shots and combine them or just one shot and use software....if you don't mind me asking. There are several ways to do it...just wondering.

I shot 3 exposures at +2 -0- -2 and used lightroom to export in to Nik HDR Effex Pro... first time I've ever tried it. Wish I would have had a flashlight with me to paint the truck. Need to experiment a little more with low light photos.
thanks again Dave

look great as a picture on a historical or tourist magazine cover. You did great, thanks for sharing. Kelley (Texas) :)

Thanks for the info. Yes I've tried the in-camera feature for HDR's but don't usually like the results. I think the three separate shots (some say more) then processing is a good way. I have photoshop but don't like the results so I do it in photomatix, but not using their default setting because it comes out terrible.

I was thinking about getting Photomatix but just never got around to it. I've hear nothing but good about their software. Since I had the Nik collection I thought I would give it a shot. Was fairly pleased how it turned out, but but think it could have been better. Not real familiar with the software yet. I was trying to stay away from the cartoonish over the top look. As far as number of shots I think it just depends on the subject matter. I've seen HDR photos with 2 shots, I've seen them with as many as 9. I guess it really depends on the look you're going after. Would love to see more examples of HDR if you or anyone else has some they would like to share.
thanks again
