Old Military Trade Token?

I had found this in a area occupied by the military in the early to late 1800's. I know this is a stretch, but some of the members serving there were of a Company "F", second regiment. This Fort had a sutlers shop or store for those stationed to purchase stuff.
Did the military ever issue trade tokens to those enlisted?
