Old Military Ring Returned.....

2 weeks ago my father and I were detecting an old favorite spot of ours that has turned up 77 old coins so far....
Silver halves, quarters, dimes, wheats, buffaloes, V Nickels, and indian head pennies. I was using a Whites Eagle SL 90
and received a good signal toward the back of the property that read between a dime and a quarter at 7"... After digging it
up it turned out to be a Silver Military Ring with a gentlemans name engraved in the top... I got the word out to several people
to help me find the owner if possible.... My uncle was able to help track down the family that had originally lived there
between 1917 and 1958... I was contacted this morning by the gentleman's son and he was excited that I had found his father's ring
and wanted to meet and see it. When we arrived at our arranged meeting place, I handed him the ring and he had this big smile on his face...
He said that he didn't even know his dad had a Military Ring and you could see the tears in his eyes as he was talking about him... He said
that he had passed away last year and was 97 years old.... His son that I was talking to was 78......... Needlessly to say I gave him the ring as he made
several attempts at payment, but I declined and said, Merry Christmas and if you know of any good sites for us to detect give me a call... He proceeded
to tell me about 10 places that he knew of that we could detect all from the late 1800's to early 1900's... We shook hands and he drove away with his fathers ring on his finger....

That's what detecting is all about.......... Jeff......
