old junk I found

I had to sell my EX II last year to stay in school and I just got my new SE pro the middle of last week. Naturally I was eager to go try it out. I didn't have the patience to wait until the battery pack charged so I threw 8 AA's in and spent a half an hour to two hours each day for 4 days until the batteries went too low and all i found worth mentioning was this junk in the picture... I quit!

There is a Buffalo nickel - no date, something that probably used to be a 2 cent piece at one time, a unmarked silver ring, and a ugly old 1898 Barber quarter.

hunting in either a low lying area where it is always wet or you did some water detecting. Have you tried using Electrolysis on the Quarter and the other Mystery Coin? It may help in removing some of that crud if you ran a low current. I'd keep pounding away at whatever you are hunting because if there is a Barber Quarter there, then there could be more goodies waiting for your next hunt. Congrats on the finds and Good Luck and HH to you.

I have to find another thing I can cut the cord to and I will do that. The problem with the Barber is that it was in the nook where two sidewalks meet and was stomped in a puddle full of rocks for 100 years. It looks like it had waves beating on it i know haha. The 2 center is a different story i got crud like that off a large cent i found and it turned into a beautiful coin ( i used broken clay pipes to scrape all the crud off with out damaging it because the clay is super fine and does not scratch) the 2 cent i think has a zinc alloy coating that actually will come off with the crud (or the crud was once the zinc alloy coating) leaving just a blank disc. Sort of like its outer layer is made out of something like what new pennies are made of that makes them biodegradable i think. I am going to find out though!
